POS Receipt Papers

POS Receipt Papers

Different types and sizes

There are two main types of thermal paper:

  • Thermal coated (TC)
  • Thermal coated one side (TCO)

The only difference between them is that TCO can be printed on by a regular inkjet printer, whereas TC cannot.

So if you're not looking to print on your receipts, there is no reason to use TCO over TC.

In addition to the type of paper, you'll also have to decide which size of thermal receipt paper you need. When it comes to roll size and width, there are several aspects to consider: BPA content (Bisphenol A), compatibility with your printer, and whether the receipt will be for a kitchen or customer.

Ease of use

Ease of Use

Compatible with your existing hardware, this receipt paper is easy to load and feeds smoothly through your POS printer, resulting in clean, clear printing. When you receive the paper, it will be clearly labeled for quick and easy identification. The paper comes in a box that is easy to open, and that protects the rolls from dust and damage during shipping. The paper is even easy to recycle.

Additional paper qualities

Thermal paper is coated with a chemical that changes color in contact with heat. It’s used in receipts, ATM and credit card slips, event tickets, airline boarding passes, lottery tickets, and other products that need to print only as much information as each respective consumer needs to see. This type of paper is designed to fade over time and cannot be altered or reprinted once it has been printed.

Bond paper is a multipurpose paper with less absorbency than writing or printing paper grades. It can be used for the same kinds of receipts thermal paper can, but the ink isn't affected by heat and it can be reprinted or duplicated easily. Bond receipt papers are often found in restaurants, hotels, retail stores, and other service-oriented businesses.

Carbonless copy paper (CCP) is also known as NCR (no carbon required) paper because it doesn't use carbon between layers as older forms of carbon copy receipt papers did. Instead, special coatings on the sheets capture images when they're written on using pressure from a pen (ballpoint or other). This type of paper has various uses: business owners may keep copies of transaction forms for their own records without having to make copies after each transaction; another common use for CCP is making invoice copies: one copy remains with the customer while another goes into storage for future reference.

What is the average shelf life?

How long is the shelf life of POS receipt paper?

As opinionated and decisive as we are when it comes to our products, it's better not to even guess. The average shelf life of a roll of paper is inconclusive. It depends on how you store your paper. To avoid any issues with your product, follow these storage and disposal tips to keep your receipt paper in great condition:

  • Store your paper in a mildly cool, low-humidity environment
  • Keep it away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight
  • Do not refrigerate or freeze
  • Do not expose to high humidity levels for prolonged periods of time
  • Always keep packages sealed until ready to use adding machines and calculators, and the eco-friendly, elemental chlorine-free construction makes it a favorite among eco-conscious establishments. At the same time, the bright white color makes print easy to read, for user convenience in the printer

When will this stuff expire? At the end of the day, if you do all that we've mentioned above, you can be confident that you won't have any issues with your receipt papers down the line.

Is there eco-friendly paper?

Nowadays, many businesses and organizations are mindful of their environmental impact and the importance of being “green.” If you are one of them, you may ask yourself if receipt paper rolls come in an eco-friendly design.

It’s important to check with your manufacturer to find out whether your particular model can print on eco-friendly paper or not—the good news is that most printers can accommodate either thermal or plain bond paper rolls.

How many rolls are in a pack?

The number of rolls you get in a pack varies depending on the size of your paper, how long your rolls are, and what brand you buy. For instance, there are 2 1/4" x 50' rolls (the most common thermal roll size for credit card machines) that come in packs of 10, 20, or 50. There are also 3 1/8" x 230' rolls that come in packs as large as 10, 30 and 50 rolls. Some paper companies offer the ability to customize your package size for exactly the number of boxes you need for your business, too.

Takeaway: Choosing the right paper can transform your business.

By now, you know the ins and outs of POS receipt paper. You've read up on what it is, how it works, and why it's important to your business.

But if we're honest with ourselves, receipt paper might not be that exciting. It doesn't have flashing LEDs or a touchscreen display. And while it might look boring on the surface, don't let its plain appearance fool you—receipt paper is important for your brand.

Think about the last time you received a handwritten receipt from a local restaurant or boutique shop. Remember how much more memorable the experience was? Receipts are an excellent opportunity for small businesses to make an impression upon their customers and keep them coming back for more—and choosing the right paper can make all the difference in that customer experience! The type of receipt paper you use is largely dependent on the type of business you run. If you run a service-based business, having thermal papers will likely allow your customers to keep their receipts when they leave the establishment, much like the usual cash register paper. However, if you run an establishment where the customer will actually be making a direct purchase from your store, such as a retail store, then it's best to use bond receipts that can be easily reprinted without fading. The same is true of paying for things at hotels and restaurants.
